Finishing the ratlines on the lower shrouds
I started building this kit almost 2 years ago to the day. I bought the kit on ebay for only a few hundred dollars. As it turns out, the kit quality is not the greatest. It suffers from a host of issues, including horrible, incomplete documentation, and a serious issue with the gunport template that interfered with the bulkhead placement. Thanks to a build Log on Model Ship World (www.modelshipworld.com), I was able to anticipate the errors and work around them. I didn’t have a pro build table because I am not a pro and this is not a pro ship. She is on the same board today as she started on:
Nothing says square like doing it by eye.
The plywood bulkhead were extremely brittle an several of the upper pieces snapped off with reckless abandon. Everything fit together fairly easily but it was tight enough to hold her relatively sqaure.
In this gallery, the first layer of planking is applied.
Meanwhile on the upper gun deck. The kit instructions would have you glue the upper decking down before installing the cannons.
The cannon rails are 3-D printed.
Cutting cannon doors was a leap of faith. The template supplied did not match the drawings and interfered with some of the bulkheads.
Bulwarks in, cannon doors lined.
Close to 3,000 individual copper plates. Learned a lot about super glue.
I had some 18k plated chain so I replaced the kits chainplate with it. A bit of glitter on what in reality must have been a tough life.
Wrapping it up
